SAIC-GM-Wuling has given a refresh to its mini electric vehicle (EV), known as the Yep, while also unveiling a larger version called the Yep Plus in China. Both the Baojun Yep and Yep Plus support fast charging, capable of charging from 30 percent to 80 percent in just 35 minutes.

Now, The 2024 Baojun Yep is available in two variants, starting at RMB 80,800 (approximately $11,160) and RMB 90,800 (approximately $12,546), marking a price increase of RMB 1,000 compared to its predecessor’s starting prices of RMB 79,800 and RMB 89,800 respectively.

Newly launched today, The Baojun Yep Plus SUV, with four doors and four seats, comes in two variants priced at RMB 93,800 (approximately $12,953) and RMB 103,800 (approximately $14,337) respectively. Measuring 3,996 mm x 1,760 mm x 1,726 mm (LxWxH), with a wheelbase of 2,560 mm, contrasting with the Yep’s dimensions of 3,381 mm x 1,685 mm x 1,721 mm (LxWxH), and a wheelbase of 2,110 mm.

The Baojun Yep offers a maximum power of 50 kW, 140 Nm torque, and a top speed of 100 km/h, with a standard 28.1 kWh battery providing a 303 km CLTC range. In comparison, the Baojun Yep Plus boasts a maximum power of 75 kW, 180 Nm torque, and a top speed of 150 km/h, along with a standard 41.9 kWh battery offering a 401 km range.

Baojun also introduced the Tianyu EV architecture featuring three platforms – D, M, and S – catering to mini to mid-size cars with pure-electric and hybrid powertrains; the S platform targets small car commuting (2,500 mm-3,500 mm). The M platform caters to young families (3,500 mm-4,600 mm), and the D-platform suits large families with children (4,600 mm-5,000 mm).

Baojun’s ambitious plan involves expediting product launches using the Tianyu architecture, intending to unveil four new models this year, inclusive of today’s launches, with the Yep marking the S platform’s debut and the Yep Plus debuting on the M platform.

Two new D platform models are slated for release in the latter half of the year, with a five-seat SUV anticipated in the third quarter and a six-seat SUV in the fourth quarter.
