The Chinese Electric Vehicle (EV) Market is set to heat up in 2024 with several new models from Li Auto, XPeng, NIO, Baojun, Leapmotor, Zeekr, and Avatr.
Li Auto
Li Auto is set to launch its flagship battery electric vehicle, the Le Auto MEGA, in March 2024. The MEGA is designed to explore a new body style with maximum cabin space, and Li Auto is also expected to release three gradually smaller models that will inherit this body style. The MEGA is priced at a premium, but the smaller models will be more affordable, with the L6, Li Auto’s new entry-level range extender SUV, expected to match or undercut the price of its major rival, the ioto M7.
XPeng
XPeng is another Chinese EV manufacturer that is set to release new models in 2024. The most exciting model from XPeng is the Mona, originally an engineering project by DD, Uber’s Chinese equivalent. XPeng acquired the project and equipped it with its own proven digital cockpit and xGP assisted driving system. The Mona is a saloon priced at just $21,000, making it an affordable option for urban assisted driving. XPeng will also release facelifts for the G6, G9, and P7, with the major upgrade being the Qualcomm 8295 digital cockpit.
NIO
NIO is rumored to launch a sub-brand, currently code-named the Alps, which is expected to be a model Y rival with 900-volt architecture and battery swap offer. The Alps launch is planned for the end of 2024, and the car will be delivered in the same calendar year.
Baojun
Baojun, a brand under SAIC-GM-Wuling, is also set to release new models in 2024. The four-door version of the Yep, called the Yep Plus, is one of the most anticipated models. Baojun also has a EV Saloon and two SUVs in the pipeline.
Leapmotor
Leapmotor, a stellantis-backed EV manufacturer, is set to release the C10, an Audi Q5-sized SUV that looks incredible value for money. The C10 will be Leapmotor’s first Global car, designed to meet the Euro NCAP safety standard. Leapmotor also has the C16 in the pipeline, a full-size high-end SUV that rivals the Le Auto L9 and the ioto M9.
Zeekr
Zeekr is set to release the Zeekr 007 Touring, a saloon version of the 007, and the Zeekr 007 SUV, a head-on rival for the Neo ES6. The W7 SUV will have 800-volt and a single motor version, which all point to a much longer range than the ES6. The most interesting model from Zeekr is the cm2, a 3+3 MPV that has a 3+3 seating configuration, with both rows able to sit three passengers. The doors open like this on both sides, and it doesn’t have B pillars.
Avatar
Avatr, a joint venture between Changan Auto, CATL, and Huawei, has two new models currently codenamed as the E15 and the E16. It is a pair of saloon SUV combo similar to the current Avatar 11 and 12 but smaller. The smaller Saloon will still feature the custom battery pack which has a whole in the second R footwell to improve rear passenger comfort.
The Chinese EV market is set to release several new and exciting models in 2024. These new models are designed to cater to various segments of the market, from affordable options to high-end luxury models.
