According to a recent study by LendingTree, Tesla drivers in the United States had the highest accident rate among 30 automotive brands during the period from mid-November 2022 to mid-November 2023.The study found that Tesla drivers experienced 24 accidents per 1,000 drivers, surpassing other brands like Ram and Subaru, which had 23 and 21 accidents per 1,000 drivers, respectively.
Risky Driving Behaviors Among Tesla Owners
The study also revealed that Tesla drivers had the second-highest number of driving incidents, including accidents, DUIs, speeding, and citations, behind only Ram Truck drivers[2][3][4]. While the exact reasons for Tesla’s high accident rate remain unclear, the study suggests that certain vehicle types may attract riskier drivers.
Safety Concerns Surrounding Tesla’s Autopilot and FSD
The findings come amid ongoing safety concerns surrounding Tesla’s Autopilot and Full Self-Driving technologies, which have been the subject of investigations and recalls by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The high accident rate among Tesla drivers raises further questions about the safety and reliability of these advanced driver assistance systems.
