Tesla has announced a delay in the full-scale production and launch of its highly anticipated Semi electric truck, with the first deliveries to external customers now planned for late 2025 and early 2026.
Tesla’s Revised Timeline:
Tesla has announced a delay in the full-scale production and launch of its highly anticipated Semi electric truck, with the first deliveries to external customers now planned for late 2025 and early 2026.
Focus on Cost-Effective Production:
According to Tesla’s Vice President of Vehicle Engineering, Lars Moravy, the company is “finalizing the engineering of Semi to enable a super cost-effective high-volume production” based on learnings from its pilot fleet and the initial deliveries to PepsiCo.
Construction of Semi Manufacturing Facility:
To support this effort, Tesla has started construction on a dedicated Semi manufacturing facility at its Gigafactory in Reno, Nevada.
Reasons for Delay:
The delay in the Semi’s launch is attributed to Tesla’s focus on developing a more affordable and efficient manufacturing process for the electric semi-truck. The company wants to ensure the Semi can be produced at scale and with a cost-effective approach before committing to wider customer deliveries.
