This is a test drive and review of the Avatar 11, an all-electric sub brand from Chinese manufacturer Chongqing.
The Avatar 1-1 is the first model from the brand, and is priced between 47 to 63,000 US Dollars.
The presenter has previously reviewed Chongqing’s attempt at an affordable EV brand, Shunlan, and found it to be forgettable.
Exterior:
The Avatar 1-1 has a unique and eye-catching design, with LED drls and headlights that are folded into the creases of the bodywork.
The front end design flows into a steeply raked roofline and wide haunches.
The rear of the car has a dramatic and small oval-shaped window with buttresses on either side, and a nearly flat trunk lid.
The car has a cargo compartment that is physically separated from the passenger compartment, with a 394 liter capacity and a 95 liter frunk.
Interior:
The interior of the Avatar 1-1 has a flowing and three-dimensional design, built around four different screens.
The car’s AI or voice assistance system emanates from a spiral-shaped speaker in the center of the dashboard.
The center screen doesn’t flip or spin, and uses the Harmony OS system.
The passenger screen has all the functions for media like movies, TV shows, and music.
The dashboard has a digital rear view mirror necessitated by the tiny rear window.
The Avatar 1-1 has a 750 volt electrical architecture and uses a traditional suspension of five link rear and a double Wishbone front.
The car has a choice of two different powertrains, a single rear mounted motor or a dual motor that’s front and rear.
The car has two battery packs to choose from, a 90 kilowatt hour or 116, delivering anywhere from 555 to 710 kilometers on the optimistic cltc cycle.
The car has a 0-100 kilometer per hour time of just 3.98 seconds.
The car’s biggest strength is the smoothness of its inputs, with well-calibrated acceleration, braking, and steering inputs.
The car has automatic valet parking which was demonstrated in an underground parking garage.
