Looking for an electric scooter that is affordable, offers a practical range and is reliable for everyday use, Kapil visited an Ather showroom to get a closer look at the Konark S 125. During his interaction with an Ather representative, he explored everything from battery capacity and charging time to performance, braking, boot space and connectivity features.

The Konark S 125 is the second-base variant of the Konark S Series and comes with an IDC-certified range of 125 km. However, for everyday city riding, the representative explained that riders can expect a real-world range of around 100 km, depending on riding conditions.

Swing-Arm Motor and Performance

One of the interesting aspects of the Konark S 125 is its motor setup. Kapil specifically asked about the swing-arm motor, as he had heard that the scooter uses a different arrangement compared with the belt-drive system found on the Rizta.

The representative explained that the scooter continues to use a PMS motor, but it is now swing-mounted. Unlike the earlier belt-drive setup, this arrangement eliminates the belt noise.

In terms of performance, the representative said that the Konark S 125 offers performance similar to the Rizta.

Acceleration is claimed to be another strong point, with the scooter taking around five seconds to accelerate from 0 to 40 km/h. Its claimed top speed stands at 70 km/h.

2.7 kWh Battery and Charging

The Konark S Series is offered with 2.7 kWh and 3.5 kWh battery options, while the Konark S 125 discussed here gets the 2.7 kWh battery.

Charging the battery from 0 to 100% using the supplied charger takes approximately four hours. For users who don’t need a full charge, going from 20% to 80% takes around three hours.

Kapil also checked out the charger supplied with the scooter. Although it is fairly substantial, he found it portable enough to be carried in a bag.

31-Litre Boot Space

Storage is another area where the scooter focuses on everyday practicality. The Konark S 125 offers around 31 litres of boot space, providing enough room for items such as a helmet, charger and a small bag.

Depending on their size and shape, even two half-face helmets can potentially be accommodated, making the storage space useful for daily commuting.

Disc Brakes on the S 125

Braking was another point Kapil wanted to clarify. The Konark S 125 comes equipped with a front disc brake, while the base S00 variant gets drum brakes.

The front disc setup provides an upgrade over the braking hardware offered on the base model.

Three Riding Modes

The Konark S 125 comes with three riding modes: Smart Eco, Eco and Power.

The primary difference between the modes is the amount of power used and, consequently, the estimated range. Smart Eco is designed to maximise range, while Power mode prioritises performance at the expense of range.

During the showroom demonstration, the display showed around 96 km of estimated range in Smart Eco mode, based on the current battery percentage. Switching to Eco brought the displayed range down to approximately 82 km, while Power mode showed around 72 km.

As Kapil observed during the demonstration, the range changes according to how much power the scooter is expected to use. More power consumption results in a lower estimated range.

Non-Touch Display and Bluetooth Connectivity

The scooter gets a non-touch DV display. The representative explained that its design helps address visibility issues caused by external lighting and reflections.

For connectivity, Bluetooth is available. It allows riders to accept or reject incoming calls and listen to music through compatible devices.

However, buyers looking for a touchscreen interface should note that the display on the Konark S 125 is non-touch.

A Practical Electric Scooter for City Riding?

From Kapil’s showroom interaction, the Konark S 125 appears to be aimed at buyers looking for a practical electric scooter for everyday urban use.

Its 2.7 kWh battery, claimed 125 km IDC range, approximately four-hour full charging time, 70 km/h top speed and 0-40 km/h acceleration time of around five seconds give it a balanced set of specifications.

The addition of a front disc brake, useful boot space, three riding modes and Bluetooth connectivity further adds to its everyday appeal.

For buyers considering the Konark S 125, the key factors to consider will likely be the difference between the claimed IDC range and real-world usage, the available battery options and whether the non-touch display meets their expectations.
