Volkswagen has officially introduced the facelifted Golf lineup, and while the eagerly anticipated all-electric version remains absent, the plug-in hybrid variants have undergone significant improvements. The eHybrid and GTE models, catering to eco-conscious drivers, showcase Volkswagen’s commitment to enhancing the hybrid driving experience.
Enhanced Electric Range:
The highlight of the new plug-in hybrid Golfs is their improved electric capabilities. With an impressive all-electric range of up to 62 miles (WLTP test assumed), these models are designed to appeal to commuters seeking eco-friendly options for daily drives. The high-voltage battery, now 19.7 kWh, contributes to this extended range, marking a substantial increase from the previous 10.6 kWh.
Powerful Performance:
Both the eHybrid and GTE models are equipped with a 1.5-liter TSI eco2 gasoline engine coupled with an electric motor. The combined power output is 201 horsepower for the eHybrid and a more spirited 268 horsepower for the GTE – surpassing even the iconic GTI by 6 horsepower. The power is efficiently transferred to the wheels through a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox, ensuring a dynamic driving experience.
**Charging Capabilities:**
Charging the high-voltage battery is more efficient than ever, with options for both AC and DC charging. The Golf’s battery can be recharged at speeds up to 11 kW from an AC source and up to 50 kW from a DC fast charger, providing flexibility for various charging scenarios.
Interior Upgrades:
Inside the cabin, the new Golf features a revamped infotainment system running on VW’s fourth-generation MIB4 platform. Offering new graphics and a simplified menu structure, the system is available in two screen sizes – 10.4 inches or a top-of-the-line 12.9-inch unit. Illuminated touch sliders for temperature and volume control add a modern touch to the interior.
Exterior Refinements:
The facelifted Golf showcases refined aesthetics, featuring redesigned LED headlights, updated LED taillights, and a fresh front bumper. Optional performance headlights, complete with a horizontal LED light strip in the grille and an illuminated VW badge, contribute to the model’s modern and recognizable appearance.
