Tesla Model 3 Highland: US Version to Feature Radar and Front Bumper Camera, Release Imminent

In a recent video, Tesla enthusiast Sam Evans, aka the Electric Viking, highlighted significant differences between the Tesla Model 3 Highland being manufactured at the US Fremont Factory and the Chinese-made version. These differences include an extra radar component and a front bumper camera present in the US-made model.

The US version of the Model 3 Highland features radar linked to Hardware 4, providing a better software technology suite compared to the Chinese-made version. Additionally, the US Model 3 Highland has a front bumper camera, which is not available in the Chinese version or other countries like Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Malaysia, or Israel. This change is expected to significantly improve the experience of Full Self-Driving and Autopilot capabilities for American consumers.

Tesla has listed the Model 3 Highland on its US website, featuring the Cybertruck’s front bumper camera, although it is unclear if it is the exact same camera. During the Fremont Factory trial production phase, the Model 3 Highland trim was listed as a test drive option, but it has since been removed.

Recent photos show that the US Model 3 Highland has a different bumper compared to the Chinese version. This change is expected to result in a better Hardware 4.0 kit for the US Model 3 Highland. However, the front camera in the Cybertruck is currently only used for parking and off-road purposes, though it may change for future Tesla models.

The US release of the Model 3 Highland appears to be closer than anticipated, with speculation suggesting that it could go on sale within the next week or two. The Highland has been spotted driving around California roads for the past few weeks, with both Chinese badging and complete US regulation headlights, as well as a Fremont VIN number.

Tesla has temporarily stopped offering test drives for the Model 3, as too many people have signed up for test drives. The company is expected to launch the Model 3 Highland with the front bumper camera, as seen in the first prototypes and promotional images.

The release date for the Tesla Model 3 Highland remains unconfirmed, but recent speculation suggests that Tesla might launch the model as early as this coming Sunday, January 15, instead of waiting for its official results announcement on January 24.

With these improvements and the imminent release, the Tesla Model 3 Highland is expected to provide a more advanced and feature-rich driving experience for American consumers.
