Facing technical challenges in development, SK On’s roadmap targets mass production of the 4680 battery by the end of 2026. The company is actively investing in R&D and constructing a pilot production line, projecting operational readiness by the second half of 2026.

In a strategic move, SK On’s collaboration with Ford, through the joint venture ‘blue oval SK,’ positions the company as a key player in the US EV market. Backed by a $9.2 billion loan from the US Energy Department, the joint venture plans to build three battery plants, with an annual capacity of 129 GWatt-hours.*
