The much-anticipated Cadillac Celestiq, General Motors’ ultra-luxury flagship model, has officially entered production at the General Motors Global Technical Center in Warren, Michigan. This exceptional vehicle is poised to redefine the luxury electric car segment with its unique combination of handcrafted artistry, limited production volume, and cutting-edge technology.
Setting the Cadillac Celestiq apart is its exclusive production approach, with no more than six units being assembled at any given time. The model is anticipated to have an annual production volume of around 100-150 units, reinforcing its status as a rare and bespoke creation. Each Celestiq will be personally commissioned, ensuring that “no two will be alike,” reminiscent of the bespoke craftsmanship synonymous with luxury automaker Rolls-Royce.
With an estimated starting price of $340,000 before customization, the Celestiq positions itself in the upper echelons of the luxury electric car market. This pricing strategy, coupled with the bespoke approach, draws parallels to Rolls-Royce’s exclusive offerings, particularly the Rolls-Royce Spectre, which, despite its exclusivity, enjoys a comparatively higher production volume with 326 units sold in Q4 2023.
Underpinning the Cadillac Celestiq is General Motors’ Ultium platform, a versatile architecture utilized in various cars, SUVs, and pickup trucks. The Celestiq features a formidable 111-kilowatt-hour battery pack, providing an estimated range of around 300 miles on a single charge. Its dual-motor, all-wheel-drive powertrain boasts an impressive 600 horsepower (447 kilowatts) and 640 lb-ft (868 Nm) of torque, propelling the luxury sedan from 0 to 60 mph in a brisk 3.8 seconds, outpacing the Rolls-Royce Spectre’s 4.4-second acceleration time.
In the realm of fast charging, the Celestiq stands out with the capability to charge at up to 200 kW, replenishing approximately 78 miles of range in just 10 minutes. While not matching the charging prowess of some larger Ultium-powered pickups, which can reach up to 350 kW, the Celestiq’s charging speed remains impressive for its class.
However, the true allure of the Cadillac Celestiq lies beyond its technical specifications. The luxury sedan features a distinctive pillar-to-pillar, 55-inch-diagonal advanced HD display, complemented by a bespoke 38-speaker custom audio system (including three external speakers). The Celestiq boasts an adaptive air suspension with 5-link front and rear, active rear steering, and an array of luxurious details, including heated armrests and ventilated seats.
As the Cadillac Celestiq enters the production phase, it marks a significant stride in the convergence of luxury and electric mobility, offering a handcrafted, exclusive alternative in a market increasingly characterized by mass production. Enthusiasts and luxury car connoisseurs eagerly await the delivery of this unique masterpiece that promises to redefine the standards of opulence in the electric vehicle landscape.
