In the race for electric vehicle (EV) supremacy, Chinese automaker Byd has unleashed its latest contender – the  Yangwang U9, a $150,000 electric supercar under the luxury brand Yangong Wang. Yahoo Finance’s Pra Sub Manan breaks down the details of this high-powered entry into the market.

Byd recently achieved a significant milestone by surpassing Tesla as the largest EV maker in terms of sales during Q4. However, the focus has now shifted to the higher end of the market with the introduction of the Yangong Wang UN9. This move positions Yangong Wang as Byd’s premium luxury brand, akin to Toyota’s relationship with Lexus.

The  Yangwang U9, described as Byd’s answer to a sports car with Lamborghini looks and supercar performance, boasts an impressive 1,000 horsepower. Despite its powerful performance, the UN9 comes with a relatively affordable price tag of $150,000, making it a competitive option in the electric supercar segment.

Comparing the UN9 to other electric supercars on the market, such as the Lotus Evija and the Rimac C_Two, which cost several million dollars each, Byd’s offering presents an attractive and more accessible option for enthusiasts.

While other luxury car manufacturers like Lamborghini and Ferrari have yet to unveil their full EV supercars, Byd’s Yangong Wang brand seizes the opportunity to establish itself as a formidable player in the electric high-performance vehicle space.

The  Yangwang U9, serves as a halo car for Byd, symbolizing its commitment to innovation and technological advancement. As Byd continues to challenge Tesla’s dominance in global EV sales, the  Yangwang U9, represents a bold move into the higher echelons of the automotive market.

Looking ahead, if Byd decides to enter the highly competitive U.S. market, the  Yangwang U9’s combination of performance and pricing could pose a significant challenge to established players. With its sleek design, Lamborghini-level performance, and a price point that rivals traditional sports cars, the UN9 is poised to make waves in the world of electric supercars.
